This week will be very short but very busy! It's a three day week for me because on Friday, I leave for one of the best trips of my life. I will be leaving to go to London for one month to study abroad with the Interior Design Program at Southern Miss. I will be staying at The University of Westminster in a dormitory and studying all things interiors and architecture! So, lets hope this week goes by fast because I am ready to go to London!!
TUESDAY
Big plans are happening today! I have planned a day with one of our sales reps, Amy Taylor! I planned this day hoping to see what a sales rep daily work life is like. This morning started off with Amy and I going to see a friend of hers. His name is Ryan Puckett and he is the designer, architect, and everything in between for Community Bank. His story on how his career started is very cool! He is the only designer Community Bank has and he has designed over 65 branches. WOW! The first question I asked him was, how do you do it?? (seriously) I learned a lot about how the process is with designing a bank from start to finish! A lot of the work was familiar to me because of my Contract Design 1 class! (Thanks Mrs. Claire) ;) I got to see the newly finished plan for a bank that is coming in Flowood, MS. After we left his office we were headed to CCD to talk to Mrs. Lori about the new Alsteel books and products! After that, we were headed back to the office and I had a huge to-do list waiting on me! I started pulling finishes from a list and putting them in a package to be sent to a client! I finished the day off by organizing parts of the Interior Library and I was headed home at 5 o'clock! T-2 days until I leave for London!!!
WEDNESDAY
There's not to much going on today. It's a slow day in the office because we all need to get back into the grove of things from that long (but much needed) holiday weekend! I worked on my practice project for most of the morning and I am almost finished picking out the finishes! Next, is space planning! I love this practice project! It gives me a feel of what to expect as a commercial designer. Especially if I decide to work in a dealership, like Interior Elements. After lunch, Meredith gave me a list of memo samples to pull for her and have ready to be discussed over tomorrow.
THURSDAY
Today was a super fun and interactive day! I got to tag a long with the team to multiple meetings around the metro area! Our first stop of the day was at the WLBT building. Interior Elements is designing a new layout, and a new furniture design for their producing show room! We are also designing a new conference room as well. I was able to see the current construction changes they are working on and also how our designer, Amanda, collaborate and present the final layout. Later on in the day, we went to the Farm Bureau Corporate office to discuss changed in their cafe area. It was a long day of traveling but so worth the learning ability I get to experience on the job. Today is my last day for 5 weeks :( but I'm ready to see what London has in store! Stay tuned for my first blog post on my first week in London!
