It's my second week here at Interior Elements and I am just loving every minute of being here! Memorial day is this weekend and we get Friday and Monday off! (wahoo). The people are great to work with and I've already learned so much!
MONDAY
So, lets talk Monday's. We all dread them and we all hate them but this Monday was not bad at all! It was a slow day but I was able to catch up on my to-do list, and continue to prepare for my trip to London! We had a huge order KI finishes come in so I had a busy afternoon organizing and putting those finishes in place. Most of the fabrics and furniture finishes we order will all be from online or our rep will tell us what's new and what we need to order. As said before, Interior Elements has many different locations. Each firm does a lot of local work but sometimes the designers will travel to each firm to work on a project together. From my understanding, we do not do any business outside of the country. Just mainly in the states each firm is at. After work my dad took the family out to eat at Half Shell. (we live at that restaurant)
TUESDAY
It was a free day for me because everyone else was working on their projects. So I decided to take that time to work in Revit. I told myself at the end of the semester that I would try and better my Pennzoil Project, and learn how to use Revit and thats exactly what I plan on doing this summer. I made an account with Lynda.com, which is a website that has thousands of tutorials on how to use any software. Luckly, Amanda has 15 years of experience in Revit and any question I had along the way she said she'd help! At lunch, Amanda and I went to a eat lunch with some of her friends from her past job. CCD (Canizaro, Cawthon, Davis) is a architecture firm in Jackson, Mississippi. I was able to meet and talk to more designers from the Jackson Area (and an alum from Southern)(SMTTT!!!!) We went to eat lunch at a local restaurant called Martins. It's a bar/grill and the best food ever! After lunch, Amanda gave me a tour around the firm and I was able to meet the architects and staff she previously worked with. Arriving back at work, I sat down and got back to working in Revit. At the end of the day, I went home and mom had cooked BREAKFAST FOR DINNER!! (if you don't like breakfast for dinner, get off my blog) :)
"GUESS WHAT DAY IS IT" HUMP DAY aka Wednesday
^^ Do people still say this anymore?? LMK! This morning I started off ordering more samples for our interiors library, and while doing that a local designer brought us red, white and blue, star shaped cookies! They were amazing!! I finished up a few samples orders before lunch and I went to eat with a very special friend :) After lunch I pulled a lot of KI finish samples from our interiors library for Meredith for a upcoming project. Amanda also gave me a list of some samples to pull for her. The day has ended and the weekend is getting closer and closer!
THURSDAY (which is my FRIYAY)
Today I am holding the fort down... both Amanda and Meredith are out of the office so it's just me! Thank goodness they gave me a do-to list to keep me busy! I pulled some finishes for an existing project all morning and sent those to be shipped to the customer. Later on in the day, Amanda gave me a "practice project" to work on in my free time. The "customer" is a Presbyterian College. I started looking at mostly Allsteel products – but i wanted to research and find other products that I thought would work well in here. Our typical manufacturers are KI, Kimball, and because this project is in South Carolina I can also use OFS (we don’t see OFS in MS). Once I had a layout of pieces, I then pulled images into presentation for my “customer.” Since I used mainly Allsteel products, I used the product configurator to select finishes and then use those images in my presentation. I finished the space planning for the first floor and picking out my furniture pieces but 5 o'clock came fast and it was time to go home! Its officially memorial day weekend!
